Legal Notice Format for Recovery of Money (Loan or Dues): Free Word Download

By Advocate Narinder Kumar, NK Associates · Updated October 2026

If someone has not returned money you lent, or has not paid for goods or work, a written legal notice is usually the first step. It puts the demand on record, often leads to payment or settlement, and is useful evidence if you file a recovery suit later. A suit for recovery of money must generally be filed within 3 years under the Limitation Act, 1963, so do not delay. If the money was paid by a cheque that bounced, use the cheque bounce notice instead, because it has strict time limits.
